Hiitch is a desktop social networking platform. It’s open source. You can actually download the source and create you own private social network with others you invite.

I’m still new to Hiitch so I’m still exploring its functionality, but it looks very exciting. I will definitely post updates as I get more accustomed with Hiitch’s social networking functions and others features.
It seems like the natural evolution of social network structure is moving away from massive closed systems, such as MySpace. The whole ‘one ring to rule them all’ single domain structure is much more susceptible to censorship and other limitations. Much like the Internet itself isn’t controlled by one company, the future of social networks may lie in a vast network of much smaller private social networks, each with its own focus. Hopefully this open platform will lead some sort of API for communication between separate private Hiitch social networks. Maybe it already exists…
If you have already set up your own Hiitch social network, please drop a note and let us know your experiences with the platform so far. Also, I’m very interested in how people are using their own private Hiitch social networks.
Do tell !
