The MSPlinks.com redirects are a backward step for online safety. MySpace has knowingly made users more vulnerable to online predators in its quest to increase profits.
If you haven’t already read how MySpace sacrificed user safety to boost revenue, you may want to.
You may also want to read about how MySpace used scare tactics to muscle users into viewing MySpace.com content in order to get big advertising deals. And their plan is working.
One MySpace user came to this site to ask for help on this issue. He expressed his fears and frustration that MySpace has made him and other users more vulnerable to identity theft and phishing by masking the true destination urls of all outbound links that are not official MySpace advertising.
In his words:
I clicked a link in myspace [that had been masked by a MSPlinks.com redirect]. The video never played, it simply redirected me to the msplinks.com site cover page. I am very suspicious of what clicking that link actually did. Do I have a phishing program now on my computer, or a virus? How would I know? If I do, can I sue myspace for making [internet users] more vulnerable and denying me of information that is necessary to make good judgement in clicking links?
Is this an isolated view, or do other MySpace users also believe that MySpace.com is less safe because of the msplinks.com redirects?
How can you help?
